THE FIRM
The Dodd-Hansen Consulting Group is a collaboration that has specialized, since 1990, in the creation and production of state-of-the-art construction specifications. Project specifications have been provided for more than 1,000 construction projects, of which more than 350 were for public schools, ranging from complete new school campuses to simple additions of relocatable classrooms.
The firm has successfully completed multiple projects for over 85 different school districts. More than 50 of the firm’s projects have been for colleges and universities, and another 30 have been for hospitals. The majority of school and hospital projects have required expertise in the requirements of the California Public Contract Code and the California Building Code, and the firm’s master specifications sections are written to satisfy those requirements.
The firm’s approach to specifications consulting has evolved in conjunction with the procedures and processes established by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice (SCIP). The firm's principals have participated in national leadership in these organizations for more than ten years.
The firm's specifications system is currently evolving to address implementation of the following:
● The collaborative process defined in the AIA Integrated Project Delivery Guide.
● Building information management as currently expressed in industry dialogues and as it will continue to evolve as an integral element of the National BIM Standard.
● Lean construction techniques for facility definition, design, process and delivery.
● Development of sustainable processes of information management, facility development, and operations and maintenance that are required to attain a high performance facility life cycle.
